At CHCB we are committed to providing a comprehensive orientation program to facilitate a smooth transition into the workforce. This includes an extensive hospital induction for two days, followed by a thorough orientation to the clinical area including a lengthy supernumerary period. This period is negotiable to meet the needs of the individual nurse.

Clinical Support

Each of the clinical areas has preceptors that are dedicated to the development of the graduate nurse. Graduate nurse are 'buddied up' with their preceptor during the supernumerary period and work closely with them throughout each rotation. The Preceptors chosen for this role hold excellent clinical and teaching skills enabling them to support the graduate nurse as required. The Graduate Nurse Program Coordinator will ensure the graduate nurse is able to reach her or his full potential during the year. By working closely with the graduate nurse, preceptor and nurse manager the coordinator can assist in identifying learning opportunities and tailoring the program to meet the needs of the individual nurse.

Study Days

Five study days are offered throughout the program. Guest speakers from within the hospital, as well as external speakers will provide up to date information to assist the graduate nurse in the specialty units of palliative care and progressive neurological disorders. In addition, each clinical setting also has an active in-service education program.
