Creative Connections: a creative therapies program to support grieving children, young people and their families

Finding words to describe how we are feeling can be difficult for everyone, let alone if you are a child or young person. Sometimes the best means of accessing our thoughts and feelings is through other forms of self expression. To create we can express. To express we can discuss. To discuss we can heal.

The Creative Connections program supports the needs of children and young people who have demonstrated difficulty in dealing with the death or impeding death of a loved one. This difficulty is termed complicated grief. We aim to gain insight into the child/youth’s complicated grief experience through art, music and clinical psychological counseling and work towards resolving these difficulties to enhance their mental health and relationships now and in the future.
We also provide social support services for parents/carers who have concerns for their child/youth at this difficult, stressful and emotional time through our social worker and clinical psychologist.
