    Allied Health

Allied health services are services provided by professionals with special qualifications in specific areas of health care. At CHCB we offer a broad range of allied health services to provide holistic care to our patients and their families. Clinicians are available to assist patients to manage their physical symptoms such as changes in communication, swallowing or mobility and to support patients and their families with psychosocial issues such as cognitive change, home support, grief and psychological adjustment. Allied health services are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team who provide care and support to patients and families of CHCB.

Speech Pathology

The Speech Pathology Department is responsible for the assessment and management of communication impairment, swallowing difficulty and secretion management issues. Patients are seen as inpatients, outpatients or home-based patients. The speech pathologists liaise closely with patients, families, members of the treating team and community carers. We aim to help patients manage functional changes by providing information and strategies to alleviate discomfort and maintain best function. The speech pathologists also provide ongoing support, education and counselling to patients and their families as symptoms change during the course of the disease.

Occupational Therapy

The role of an Occupational Therapist is to assist patients with disabilities to function and live as independently as possible.

Physiotherapy

The department aims to provide timely and appropriate physiotherapy services to patients both within the hospital and community. With appropriate individual exercise programs, chest physiotherapy and pain control, the Department aims to achieve optimum function for individuals. The Department provides carer training in manual handling and the use of equipment.

Social Work

A social work service is available to patients both during and after a hospital admission. Assistance can be provided with resourcing care packages, information and referral to community services, counselling and support for the patient and their family, advocacy and practical assistance.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is directed at enhancing the quality of life of patients and their care givers. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, Music therapists use music to address the perceived needs of patients in order to enhance the physical, emotional, social and spiritual integration of an individual during the treatment of an illness or disability.

Neuropsychology

The service provided by the Neuropsychology Department at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem includes assessment of the psychological sequelae of neurological illness, supportive counselling of patients and their families and behaviour management. The Department is also committed to research that extends current knowledge about the impact of neurological disease.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care provides spiritual and emotional support and understanding to those for whom we care, for their families and friends, always respecting their beliefs and wishes.

Bereavement Services

Bereavement Services provides bereavement follow-up offering support and comfort to recently bereaved relatives, friends and carers.

Volunteers Services

Social support and a wide range of other volunteer conducted services and activities is available through the Volunteer Services Department. Volunteer Services are part of CHCB’s multidisciplinary team contributing to the holistic care of inpatients, day centre groups and community clients.
