About us:
Finding words to describe how we are feeling can be difficult for everyone, let alone if you are a child or young person. Sometimes the best means of accessing our thoughts and feelings is through other forms of self expression.
With the support of the Barr Family Foundation the Creative Connections program has been established to provide specialist allied health and creative therapies to support the families of children
following
or anticipating the death of a loved one.
The program provides individual and/or group session therapy for children and young people up to the age of 18 years old. In order to respond to the needs of families during this difficult time, individual sessions are provided at home, at school, onsite or via phone.

Therapies include;
Art Therapy:
Our qualified art therapist utilises the mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture etc to enable the child/youth to visually express themselves. This informs the art therapist of the child/youth’s experience and encourages therapeutic discussion around the art work.
Music Therapy:
The registered music therapist facilitates a creative therapeutic process as a means to overcome the grief difficulties. The child/youth may respond either to the music itself or via the therapeutic relationship and counseling provided via discussion of the music chosen or by the process of song writing and recording.
Social Work:
The social worker on our team is available to assist the parent/ care with information and support to address the needs of their child/ youth in dealing with grief issues, family conflict, social networks and parenting challenges. Appointments can be made to see the social worker with or without the child/young person at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem or support can be provided over the telephone.
You can contact our program coordinator on 03) 9595 3402 to arrange an appointment.
