Palliative
Care
Calvary Health Care Bethlehem, a leader in Australian palliative care services, aims to provide quality care that is professional and compassionate. The Palliative Care Service adheres to the highest standards in providing inpatient, day centre and community care to people diagnosed with an active, progressive incurable illness.
The Palliative Care Service is dedicated to ensuring that patients quality of life is enhanced in their final days, weeks or months.
Palliative Care is a concept of care for people living with a life threatening illness. It offers hope by helping a person live a meaningful life through:
-
provision of holistic care, recognising that any illness impacts on the whole person - physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually
-
relief of pain and other distressing symptoms
-
respect for a person's autonomy and choice
-
provision of support for carers, family, friends, including bereavement support
Patients may be referred to Calvary Health Care Bethlehem from another hospital, by their general practitioner or specialist. The community service also accepts referrals from patients, their families and carers.
To access our inpatient beds, patients have to be known to our community palliative care service or have been assessed by a specialist palliative care provider. The palliative care service works in close consultation with the patient's GP and specialists to provide safe and compassionate care.
