Respite care is offered to family and carers who are providing the primary care for a person with a neurological condition.

Respite care aims to be a positive experience, by providing respite carers in whom the primary carers can have confidence. Respite carers can provide pleasant company, meaningful activity and support for the person with the disability.

Role of the Respite Carer
Respite carers are employed and trained by Bethlehem Health Care and can provide :

Company and support at home

Assistance with outings or community activities if appropriate

The time, skills and interest, to communicate with people who have speech difficulties

When is Respite Available?
Respite can be on a regular basis for a few hours per week, or arranged on a casual basis. Respite is available any day of the week - day or evening.
Who is Eligible
Enquiries are welcome from families or agencies where :

The person being cared for has a progressive neurological condition

The person is between 16 and 64 years and resides in Metropolitan Melbourne area.

The person is over 64 years and resides in the Southern Region

The person is unable to manage independently
The amount of Respite which can be offered is subject to assessment by Bethlehem Health Care's Home Respite Program Manager.
Is There a Cost?
This respite service is offered at a nominal charge.
