Bequests

By supporting Calvary Health Care Bethlehem in your Will you will be helping improve palliative and neurological services in your community and provide a legacy that will have a positive and lasting impact on many patients and their loved ones well into the future.

Various Bequests

Your solicitor or trustee company can give you more information, but there are three major types of bequests.

A Specific Bequest is a gift of particular articles of property, such as houses or land, shares, cars, furniture, jewellery, books, etc. given to a particular person or organisation.

A General Bequest is usually a sum of money or percentage of the value of your estate given to persons or organisations.

A Residual Bequest is what is remaining of your estate after the specific and general bequests have been distributed. For example, you may leave residual bequests to your family, friends, or an organisation such as a registered charity. In your Will you can nominate how you want it to be divided.

Leaving a Bequest to a Calvary Health Care Bethlehem Service

When preparing your Will, your immediate family should always be the first ones you consider when dividing up your estate.

However, you may also like to consider a bequest to Calvary Health Care Bethlehem, enabling us to improve and expand upon the health services we provide to either palliative or neurological patients.

For some people, giving through their estate is the only time they will be able to give a significant gift to an organisation that has helped them.

The following is some suggested wording, should you wish to support one of our health care facilities.

If you wish to leave a share of your estate or your entire estate

“I ................................... bequeath to Calvary Health Care Bethlehem Ltd, in the State of Victoria (insert the share you wish to leave, e.g. “25 per cent of my estate” or “whole of my estate”), free of all duties for which the written acknowledgment of the Chief Executive Officer shall be sufficient discharge.

If Calvary Health Care Bethlehem Ltd ceases to exist, this legacy shall not fail but my executors shall pay it to the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary which I consider most nearly fulfils the object I intend to benefit.

If you wish to leave a specific sum of money

Insert “the sum of “ (being the amount you wish to leave.)

If you wish to leave a specific bequest

Insert the address of the property, details of shares, life insurance policies, bank accounts or other assets.

If you wish to leave a remaining (residual) amount.

After specific bequests are written, insert “the residue of my estate” or the percentage e.g. “50% of the residue of my estate”.

If you wish to leave an alternative gift

Sometimes a nominated beneficiary may predecease the person for whom the will is written, or be unwilling to accept the specific bequest. In this instance, it is possible to redirect the bequest to another beneficiary. To make an alternative gift simply precede the above general wording with the following clause:

“Should any or one of my beneficiaries predecease me or be unable or unwilling to accept my bequest, I give that portion to (insert 'Calvary Health Care Bethlehem'. If you wish to leave a bequest for a specific purpose - e.g. care and treatment of neurological patients).

Insert the words “to be used for the purposes of” (state the purpose, of the service to benefit - e.g. “to be used for the purposes of acquiring medical equipment for the treatment and care of patients of the Calvary Health Care Bethlehem Neurology Unit”).
